IPDAS is a client-server  application -- the IPDAS database can be connected to an unlimited number of user workstations at multiple locations, and the IPDAS software is loaded onto individual workstations.  The requirements for the hardware vary depending on the size of the firm.  Our technical staff will evaluate your firm based on the number of users and the size of the docketing database and give you a recommendation which will allow you to get the best performance for your needs.

Database Server Requirements:

  • For a large firm of approximately 100 attorneys, the server should have at least a modern single processor with a minimum of 4 GB of RAM.  IPDAS performance is more sensitive to RAM levels in the SQL Server than to processor speed, although both can help.
  • The IPDAS database is likely to occupy on the order of 1 GB of diskspace (excluding backups) for a large firm.
  • The server should run SQL Server 7.0, 2000, and 2005 (but not MSDE or SQL Server Express) and Windows NT Server, Windows 2000 Server, or Windows 2003 Server.
  • The only application which needs to run server-side during the daytime is MS SQL Server (there is also an import which runs at night either on a server or on a non-user PC).

Workstation requirements:

  • We recommend that user workstations not running Windows Vista have 1GB of RAM, although some of our customers are running successfully on machines with only 512 MB of RAM; and, if running alone, IPDAS works on machines with as little as 256 MB of RAM (or 128 MB with greatly reduced performance.
  • IPDAS is less sensitive to processor speed, so while we recommend a P4, it will work reasonably well on PIII-500s and above.
  • IPDAS supports Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Vista.  While IPDAS probably still runs on Windows 98, we no longer test in that environment.
  • IPDAS supports MS® Word 2000, XP, 2003, and 2007.
  • Citrix:   IPDAS can be run for remote users on Citrix using a Windows 2000 or 2003 server.
